Webster University is a nonprofit university that operates an online campus and multiple traditional campuses across the nation. Established in 1915, it opened as Loretto College in honor of the Sisters of Loretto who helped found it. The Sisters wanted to create a private institution of higher learning specifically for women. It wasn’t until the 1960s that the college admitted men for the first time. The Sisters of Loretto later turned over the operations of the college to a Board of Directors who are still responsible for the university today.

After becoming Webster University, the university looked for ways to meet the needs of even more students. This led to the school establishing campuses on and near military bases across the country. Students taking classes on those campus can use military discounts. It also operates campuses in major metropolitan cities and areas like Myrtle Beach, Jacksonville, Elgin and Colorado Springs. Students can take classes online also.

Webster took its name from Webster Groves, which is where it has its flagship campus. This city is also home to the headquarters of the university. The university created a chess team in 2012 that is one of the most successful chess teams in the nation. This team won three state championships in a row. The more than 14,000 students enrolled in Webster University programs can also join other clubs and participate in other activities on all its campuses.

MBA in Human Resources

Webster University is home to the George Herbert Walker School of Business, which uses the name of the former American President. This school is responsible for the university’s MBA program and all related programs. All of those programs have ACBSP accreditation. Students can choose between two human resources concentrations and study either human resource management or human resource development. Both programs include 48 credits of HR work, but the courses that students take vary between each program.

HR professionals are the ones responsible for hiring new employees, advertising open positions, handling complaints and issues that employees have and creating benefits packages for those workers. The HR management program available from the university focuses more on the management skills that these professionals need. Students take classes like Managing Human Resources, Labor Management Relations, Training and Development and Staffing.

Webster designed its human resource development program for those who want to develop and hone their HR skills. This program features classes such as Group Development and Change, Research and Assessment Methods in Human Resources Development, Organization Development and Change and Career Management. The university expects students to take some required business courses too.

All incoming students must submit a transcript. The business school uses that transcript to determine if the student took all prerequisite courses and if the student needs to take any lower level classes before beginning the full program. Students granted conditional acceptance to the university may need to take some of these prerequisites too. MBA students can take classes from the other concentrations that are available, which include marketing, health administration, project management and business and organization security management.

About Webster University

Webster University Accreditation Details

Webster University has all the accreditation that prospective students should look for in a university. The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS) granted Webster regional accreditation, which applies to all the programs available from the university. This also allows students to use the FAFSA when applying for financial aid and allows students to bring credits with them from another school when they enroll in the university. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) accredited all its graduate and undergraduate business programs. Webster also has accreditation for its nursing, teaching and music programs.

Webster University Application Requirements

The George Herbert Walker School of Business at Webster University has its own admissions requirements in place for incoming students. Those applying to any of its MBA programs must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher. Though the university may admit those with a lower GPA, those students will receive conditional acceptance. They must maintain a higher GPA and take some prerequisite classes.

Webster offers students the chance to log in to their Facebook accounts and link their social media profiles to its admissions website. This makes it easier for them to log in and out of the application portal. Those who want to keep their social media profiles private and those who do not have Facebook accounts can create a unique account with the Webster site. The university asks for contact information, an email address and some other basic things before letting students create their own unique passwords.

Completing the online application is just one of the steps that students must take when applying to Webster University. They will also need to send an official transcript from any college attended to the university. This transcript should show the student’s progress towards finishing a bachelor’s degree, his or her cumulative GPA and the most recent classes that the student took. The university may ask for a personal statement, a resume or letters of recommendation too.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The tuition that Webster University charges varies based on how students take their classes. Those taking classes on its St. Louis campus pay $730 per credit hour, while those enrolled on its Irvine campus pay $715 per credit hour. Other campuses in this school system charge $595 per credit hour, which is the same rate students pay when taking classes on one of its military campuses. Online students pay $780 per credit hour. Webster offers a discounted rate for all military students. This discount drops their tuition rates by nearly half of what other students pay.

Webster has a priority deadline of February 1 for all students seeking financial aid. The university must receive the completed FAFSA that the student filed online or through the mail. Many MBA students are independents and can use their own tax records when applying, but younger students will need to use their parents’ tax records when applying. Graduate students usually qualify for unsubsidized student loans that allow them to borrow a set amount every year. These loans are only available to full-time students. Webster University can help students afford their annual costs through scholarships and grants also.
