About Baker College
Muskegon College, founded by Woodbridge Ferris, opened its doors in 1888. Ferris later became Michigan’s governor and a United States Senator. Baker Business University opened in about two decades later, founded by Eldon E. Baker. Baker was an educator who eventually moved to Flint after operating a successful business college in Winfield, Kansas. Muskegon College was purchased by the Robert Jewell and his family and, in 1965, purchased Baker Business University, merging the two schools together. The Jewell’s owned an academic group located in Muskegon. The schools operated separately until 1969 when Muskegon became a non-profit organization. In 1974, Baker Business School changed its name to Baker Junior College and became non-profit in 1977. The school merged in 1985 creating Baker College.

Baker College Accreditation Details
Baker College is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. This means that students, parents, and employers can rest assured that graduates are prepared for leadership roles in their field of study. The college also undergoes periodic reviews to confirm that they continue to have the resources to meet goals and objectives set forth by the Commission and the school agrees to address any areas that the Commission deems as needing improvement. Baker College Application Requirements
In order to attend Baker College, undergraduate students must complete an online application. They must provide official high school transcripts as well as official SAT or ACT scores. Students who have earned college credit after high school graduation must also submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Baker College reviews all transfer credits and allows the transfer of those that are relevant to the programs offered at Baker. The student’s GPA is also considered when reviewing transfer credits. Before completing an application, transfer candidates must speak to an enrollment coordinator.
Students who wish to attend graduate school at Baker College must complete an online application and provide transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Students must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Students must also provide a current resume as well as a 500- to 1,000-word essay that describes the student’s career goals. GMAT or GRE scores are not required but can be submitted.

Students may qualify for financial aid in the form of grants and scholarships, which do not need to be repaid, or loans which must be repaid after graduation. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify for any financial assistance. Many options for financial aid are passed over as students are unaware they exist. For this reason, students are encouraged to discuss their financial situation with a financial aid advisor to determine what options may be available to them.
Scholarships may be merit- or need-based and may be awarded automatically based on information found in the FAFSA. However, there are scholarships that require additional applications.
