Master of Business Administration With Human Resources Concentration at Belhaven University

Belhaven University offers a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in human resources. While the MBA program is offered at the school’s Madison and Jackson campuses, the human resources concentration is only available online. The curriculum focuses heavily on the application and study of human resource principles. Students explore areas of study that include benefits and compensation, employee relations, and investigate current issues in the industry. Students who wish to pursue an MBA from Belhaven may already know the field in which they intend to work, and they will benefit from the opportunity to add this concentration to the school’s foundational MBA program.

The MBA program itself is a blend of the eternal world of Christian faith, the sophisticated academic world, and the technologically dependent, practical career world. The human resources concentration fully aligns with the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) Curriculum Guidebook and Templates. The SHRM designed these resources as part of its initiative to define human resources education programs taught in universities and to help schools further develop appropriate degree programs. In other words, the SHRM’s Curriculum Guidebook and Templates specify the minimum content areas that should be studied at the undergraduate and graduate levels by human resources students, and the SHRM recognizes only 366 universities in the world, Belhaven included.

The 42-credit MBA with a human resources concentration consists of 33 credits in core classes that cover strategic planning, marketing management, the legal environment of business, organizational behavior, managerial economics, and financial analysis. Other areas of study include quantitative decision-making, business foundations, ethical problems in business, and an introduction to graduate education. Students must take three out of the four following online-only classes: Issues and Innovations in Human Resources, HR Compensation, and Benefits, HR Employee Relations, or Current Issues in Human Resources.

After graduation, students will have gained a global perspective through the study of foreign economics, technical, and political structures and how they relate to business practices. Students will also have the opportunity to apply theory to real-life industry and business situations and be able to integrate the major functional business areas into the creation of business policy. Finally, graduates will have the knowledge and skills necessary to advance their careers and/or obtain employment in managerial positions.
