The Department of Management, Marketing and Human Resources at Lamar University offers a Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resource Management. The program focuses on recruitment, selection, maintenance, and development of human resources by various entities. Students learn about various functional concepts, including interviewing, training, health and safety, labor relations, and compensation and benefits. The program incorporates real-life experience and useful skills in the courses. Students have the ability to work with actual business organizations on different projects.


The BBA in Human Resource Management requires the completion of 120 credit hours. The human resources courses include Human Resource Management, Employment Law, Advanced Organizational Behavior, Compensation Management, Industrial Psychology, Quality and Productivity Management, and Issues in Human Resource Management. The program is offered on campus. Graduates of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources Management have the ability to think quickly on their feet and possess excellent public speaking abilities. They possess a solid understanding of strategy and empathy for other humans.

About Lamar University

Lamar University is a comprehensive public institution of higher learning located in Beaumont, Texas. It is one of the fastest-growing colleges and universities in the state and a part of The Texas State University System. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching categorizes Lamar University as a Doctoral Research University. It was founded in 1923 as South Park Junior College. It started out with 125 students. In 1932, the college became Lamar College in honor of Mirabeau B. Lamar, who was the second president of the Republic of Texas and deemed the “Father of Education” in the state. The school changed its name to Lamar State College of Technology in 1951. It began offering doctoral programs in 1970. It finally became Lamar University in 1971. In 1995, the university joined The Texas State University System. Today, Lamar University is home to more than 15,000 students on its 292-acre urban campus. It operates on the semester-based academic calendar.

Federal Work-Study

The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program is federally funded and allows students who show financial need to work on a part-time basis to make money to help pay for educational costs. Both undergraduate and graduate students are able to work up to 20 hours per week while they are enrolled in courses. The FWS program encourages students to pursue jobs that are related to their degree program or those that benefit the community. The pay depends on each student but is no less than the current federal minimum wage.
