Roosevelt University originated on March 28, 1945, when Central YMCA leader Edward J. Sparling started Thomas Jefferson College to ensure equality for Blacks, Jews, and women. Two weeks after, President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s widow Eleanor extended her financial support. In 1947, it relocated to the Auditorium Building designed by Sullivan & Adler in 1889. In 1954, it acquired the Chicago Musical College founded by Florenz Ziegfeld. By 1959, it was renamed Roosevelt College to honor the distinguished benefactor couple. One decade later, Walter E. On February 12, 2016, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) Institutional Actions Council officially notified Roosevelt University that the Level VI accreditation was successfully reaffirmed through 2025-26 under its sixth president, Dr. Ali Malekzadeh, who earned the MSU Outstanding Academic Affairs Administrator Award. Located 1.4 miles north on Chicago’s La Salle Street, this mega 19-state Midwest Region accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Education Department to check Roosevelt’s 104 baccalaureate, 69 master’s, four doctoral, and six certificate offerings. Specifically, the Walter E. Heller College of Business has been approved by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) since 2013. The BSBA and MS curricula aligned to Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) guidelines too.
Roosevelt University Application Requirements
Entering Roosevelt University is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because 2,793 of the 4,018 Fall 2017 applicants were triumphant for selective 70 percent acceptance. First-year Lakers diving into the BSBA in Human Resource Management must achieve a high school diploma or GED equivalent. The Illinois State Board of Education considers four years of language arts and three years of math prerequisite. On average, freshmen present a 3.37 GPA, 924 SAT, and 23 ACT mark. A maximum of 30 AP, IB, and CLEP credits are transferable. Collegiate transfers must have finished at least one full-time semester with 2.0 GPAs or better. Foreign learners are welcomed with English 101 credit or TOEFL iBT scores over 80. The MS in Human Resource Management mandates four-year bachelor’s completion at 2.7 GPAs or higher. GPAs under 3.0 require taking the Graduate Management Admission Test though.
Roosevelt University conveniently keeps admission rolling year-round. Only the Honors Program has strict deadlines of July 15th for Fall and October 15th for Spring.
