Saint Leo University Human Resources MBA
Human Resources Management is one of the 12 concentrations Saint Leo University (SLU) offers with its MBA degree. All MBA students first take a series of eight core classes to gain a solid understanding of business fundamentals. These include Organizational Behavior, Marketing, and Financial and Managerial Accounting. Additionally, students then must complete five specialty courses in their concentration area for a total of 36 credit hours. The Human Resources Management program consists of courses covering recruitment practices, training modalities, compensation and benefits packages, legal considerations, and HR strategy. Some students choose to complete a one-semester internship at a local business during their final semester of study. While this is optional, it is recommended especially for students who do not have much professional experience as it will help them gain a better understanding of the practical aspects of their field. This experience also provides an opportunity for networking and can lead to job offers. The HR concentration and MBA general classes are available entirely online, but students can opt to take the core courses on campus or at one of the satellite learning centers. Faculty at Saint Leo University designed their MBA programs with flexibility in mind. Each year is divided into six eight-week terms with students taking one or two courses each term for a minimum program length of 1 year. If desired, students are allowed to extended their program and complete two concentration areas concurrently.
About Saint Leo University
Saint Leo University traces its history back to 1889 when a group of Benedictine nuns helped open the school along with a monastery and an abbey. Over 100 years later, while the campus has undergone many changes, the school has remained rooted in the Catholic faith. Their teaching philosophy involves educating the whole person and helping students find balance and fulfillment. Stated core values including respect, integrity, responsible stewardship, and personal development among others have helped shape campus policy. For example, in 1898 when segregation was still law, Saint Leo University admitted its first black student. Along with Catholicism, military education is another key piece of the university’s history. Along with its designation as a military college in its early years, in the 1970s, Saint Leo College, as it was then named, was one of the first schools to design programs geared toward military members and their families, even bringing classes onto local bases. The university continues to serve this population with its extensive online program, and roughly 6000 currently enrolled students are involved in military service.
While the main campus remains in Saint Leo, Florida, there are about 35 affiliated learning centers throughout the area. Between these campuses and the online platform, students at Saint Leo University can choose from over 100 different degree programs ranging from associate’s to master’s level. Notably, about 70 of these can be completed entirely online. Regardless of degree program, the school keeps their student to teacher ratio low, at around 14 to 1, and faculty members take time to get to know students individually. The U.S. News and World Report has recognized SLU as #14 on its list of Best Value Schools and the 31st best college for veterans in the region.
Saint Leo University Accreditation Details
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is responsible for regional accreditation of Florida schools, and St. Leo University has remained continuously accredited since 1967 with renewal in 10-year intervals. During each review, the school must demonstrate that it provides students with an adequate education, offers appropriate campus activities and learning resources, and employs enough faculty members. Additionally, factors like business structure, financial standing, the condition of campus facilities, and transparency are reviewed. Since accreditation is such an important benchmark in higher education, the process provides an incentive to colleges and universities to continue to improve. While the SACSCOC examines schools as a whole, there are some organizations that certify individual programs to ensure that the curriculum and teaching methods align with current practice in the industry. At Saint Leo University, all of the MBA programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Students who meet admission requirements are then invited for an interview with the Director of Graduate Admission.
