About National University

National University is one of the largest institutes of higher learning in California. It opened in 1971, founded by David Chigos, a retired US Navy lieutenant commander. AT the time, he was the Director of Employee Training for General Dynamics Corporation and he recognized that there was a need for a university with a non-traditional format that would help working adults gain advanced skills.

As a veteran-founded school, National University has a strong focus on providing higher education to the military. They are a Yellow Ribbon School and are dedicated to supporting the military. Most programs are offered on campus, online or on military bases in order to provide military members with the flexibility they need.

National University offers four-week classes and students can choose from more than 100 degree programs at the undergraduate or graduate level.

National University Application Requirements

All applicants must complete the ACCUPLACER evaluation in English and math prior to applying. They must complete an application and provide official high school transcripts. Transfer applicants must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. If they have fewer than 60 semester or 90 quarter credits, official high school transcripts must also be provided. They must also have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.

Graduate applicants must have an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or higher. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. One transcript must display that the applicant holds a bachelor’s degree or higher.

National University Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition at National University is $370 per credit hour and graduate courses are $430 per credit hour. Financial aid is available in the form of grants, scholarships or loans. On-campus students may also be eligible for work-study programs. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed and it must be renewed annually.
