About Brandman University

Founded in 1958, Brandman University started out as a branch of Chapman University. Chapman established a campus in Orange, California to meet the needs of military students stationed on a nearby base. It operated under the name of the Chapman University College for several decades. After the Joyce and Saul Brandman Foundation donated a large amount of money to the college, it separated from Chapman and became a separate institution called Brandman University.

Though the university now accepts a wide range of students, it still offers programs designed for students who cannot devote themselves full-time to college. It enrolls a large number of military students every year and also accepts working professionals who have full-time jobs. The university offers more than 50 degree programs for both graduate students and undergrads. Some of these are distance education and hybrid programs that allow students to take classes online and use a combination of online and traditional classes to finish their degrees. Brandman also offers teaching and education programs that help students earn their teaching licenses and credentials.

U.S. News & World Report started ranking online colleges in 2012. It included Brandman on its list of the best online schools every year. The university also ranks as one of the top schools for military students because it allows students to take classes online as they move to other bases in the United States and abroad. Brandman University has an enrollment today of more than 11,000 traditional and online students across its more than 20 campuses.

Brandman University Accreditation Details

As Brandman University has regional accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), students can easily take classes from another school and transfer those credits into one of the degree programs offered by this university. This form of accreditation also gives students the right to use the FAFSA when they need financial aid. The university offers education and nursing programs that have accreditation too.

Brandman University Application Requirements

The Brandman University MBA program only accepts students who have some professional experience. Students must submit their resumes to the university to show that they work at least part-time in the field. Though the university has a GPA requirement, it allows students to meet this requirement in several ways. They can have a 3.0 GPA in the last 30 credits of classes taken in a bachelor’s or certificate program or have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and take an entrance exam such as the GRE. The university will also accept prospective MBA students who have a master’s degree from a regionally accredited school and those who submit a portfolio that features letters of recommendation and writing samples.

In addition to meeting one of those requirements, students must submit the Brandman University online application. It typically takes students an hour or less to fill out all the sections of the application. They must also submit official transcripts from any of the colleges that they attended and earn credits from in the past. This transcript must show the cumulative GPA of the student and list the classes they took as well as their grades.

Tuition and Financial Aid

All graduate students attending Brandman University will pay the same rate. The university charges a flat $640 per credit hour. Most of the classes that it offers are worth three credits, which means that students will pay $1,920 for each class that they take. Students can easily multiply this rate by the number of classes they plan to take to determine the amount they’ll pay each semester. The university offers a discounted rate for both active duty military students and the spouses of those students. Those individuals will pay $400 per credit hour to take classes at the graduate level.

Graduate students can use the FAFSA to see if they qualify for any of the unsubsidized loans available from the federal government. Students must agree to go through entrance counseling before the university will disperse their loans. Graduate PLUS loans are available for graduate students with a good credit history. These loans have a low 7% interest rate. The government only offers these loans to students who file the FAFSA. Though students can also use both alternative and private student loans, Brandman University encourages students to look at other options before taking out one of these loans because of the high interest rates attached.
