Stony Brook University offers a Master of Science in Human Resource Management and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management.

The Master of Science in Human Resource Management provides students with the essential education to develop skills needed to begin or advance their careers. Students gain a broad-based understanding and specific competencies needed to align human resource purpose with objectives of various types of organizations. The curriculum incorporates theory and practice. A total of 30 credit hours are needed to complete the program. The courses include: Foundations of Human Resources, Employee Relations and Labor Management, Employee Learning and Professional/Career Development, Organizational Development and Change Management, Human Relations and Workforce Planning, Employment Law and Policy, Job Evaluation, Compensation Systems, and Benefits, Performance Management in Organizations, Diversity and Global Issues in the Workplace, and Strategic Human Resources Master’s Project. Students are able to complete the program on a full or part-time basis either on campus or online. The program completely aligns with the current academic standards set up by the Society for Human Resource Management.


The Advanced Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management provides an overview of human resource management and is an ideal addition to a master’s degree for students seeking jobs in human resources. It requires a total of 15 credits. The courses include Foundations of Human Resources, Employee Relations and Labor Management, Employment Law and Policy, Diversity and Global Issues in the Workplace, Performance Management in Organizations, Organizational Development and Change Management, and Job Evaluation, Compensation Systems, and Benefits.

Stony Brook University is a public institution of higher learning located in Stony Brook, New York. It is part of The State University of New York System. It is one of the 64 schools in the system. It was established in 1957 with the intention of providing training to secondary school teachers. It officially became a university in 1960. Federal Work-Study

The Federal Work-Study program is offered through the federal campus-based aid program. It is available to students who demonstrate a significant financial need and provides employment opportunities both on and off campus. Students are able to work part-time, up to 20 hours per week while they are taking classes. The program encourages students to pursue positions that are related to their course of study or those that benefit the community. The pay depends on each student’s situation, but the minimum hourly rate is at least the current federal minimum wage.
