Human resources is a diverse field with many challenging positions that fulfill different roles. It requires personnel that have knowledge in many areas. When pursuing an education in human resources, one concern is often what types of positions and what types of companies might hire for human resources after a candidate has earned a degree or received the required training.

Human Resource Responsibilities

Human resource personnel handle everything from hiring and terminations, benefits and compensation, conflict resolution, management responsibilities, recruitment, employee productivity, training and development, compliance with regulations and laws, employee relations, and, in some cases, payroll and other employee-related business functions.

Human Resource Employment Outlook

Companies from small, independent firms to large, national corporations may have a human resources department to handle all of the employment records and daily employee issues. Human resources departments can be found in every industry, and, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment outlook is projected to increase by 21 percent between 2010 and 2012.

Of all of the industries and companies or organizations where human resources specialists and managers could be hired, the large, national corporations that are hiring the most employees typically hire the most human resource personnel as well. At the end of 2012, some of the companies that were hiring the most overall employees included technical companies, the health care industry, gasoline companies, the telecommunications industry, and retail companies.

Top Companies for Human Resources Employment

There are a variety of different types of technical companies, but some of the ones that are hiring the most workers currently are related to the computer industry. In 2012, Amazon, Microsoft, Dell, Yahoo, and Google were among the technical companies that needed additional human resources personnel to handle the influx of hiring.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in the health care industry will continue to grow exponentially. Large health care facilities and hospitals are two of the types of organizations in the health care industry that need the most human resources personnel. In 2012, that included national health care corporations Kindred Healthcare and HCA Healthcare.

Human resources personnel are also needed for hiring and termination processes at companies such as gasoline stations. Many companies have moved to online applications, and the number of jobs on a national scale for gas station clerks, attendants, and managers is also one of the fields that continue to grow and has high projected growth through 2020.

Companies in the telecommunications industry, such as AT&T and Dish Network, also employ personnel to staff large human resources departments, as do retail stores such as Toys ‘r Us and the Family Dollar chain.
