Utah State University Human Resource Management Degrees

Prospective students at Utah State University who want to study human resource management can study at the undergraduate or graduate level. The university offers a Bachelor of Arts in Management or a Bachelor of Science in Management and both degrees are available with an emphasis in Human Resource Management. Students can also earn a Master of Human Resources degree from the Management Department.

The first step to enrolling in one of the university’s bachelor’s degree programs is looking at the additional admissions requirements of the Department of Management. Freshmen applicants in the top ten percent of their graduating class or who earn a 3.7 high school GPA may qualify for direct admission to the program. Students with high academic achievement may also be eligible for merit-based scholarships administered by the university to Utah-based applicants.


Some of the classes a student may take in the bachelor’s degree program include Financial Accounting Principles, Business Law, Project Management, Fundamentals of Marketing, and Big Data Analytics. Classes required for the human resources concentration include Strategic Sales, Talent Management, Recruitment and Selection, and Applied Human Resource Management.

For students who already have an undergraduate degree and want to study at the graduate level, Utah State University offers its Master of Human Resources program. The program’s objectives include successfully preparing students to work in professional careers in human resources. Degree-seekers will need to complete 33 to 43.5 credits with the total dependent on the type of undergraduate degree the student has already earned.

Students who have already earned a degree in business will usually qualify to complete the degree program without taking any prerequisites, but students with a degree in another area may need to take some courses in finance, accounting, marketing, and Excel. While enrolled, students will complete a summer internship, as well as take a trip to Europe or China to learn about human resources practices in other countries.

There are two programs offered that reward an MHR including the on-campus degree for Utah residents or the professional MHR for out-of-state students. Some of the careers that may be available to graduates of both programs include those within recruitment, training, talent acquisition, human resource management, and compensation. Students may also find work in jobs tasked with maintaining organizational effectiveness and organizational development.

Utah State University Accreditation Details

Regional accreditation for Utah State University comes from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. The university is also nationally accredited by the United States Department of Education, and students who enroll are eligible to participate in the federal student loan program. Students who attend Utah State University online are protected by the university’s membership within the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA), which ensures consistency of programs offered at different schools.

Some of the programs that have gained approval from independent and national organizations include landscape architecture, which has been accredited by the American Society of Landscape Architects, and the business programs, which have been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The programs in electrical engineering, computer science, civil engineering, and computer engineering are accredited by ABET.

Utah State University Application Requirements

To apply to Utah State University as a freshman, students must submit an application fee, a non-refundable $50 application fee, high school transcripts, and official scores from the SAT or ACT. Students with concurrent enrollment must also submit their transcripts. Minimum requirements for admission include a 2.5 high school GPA and a 17 on the ACT or 900 on the SAT.

Students who don’t meet the minimum qualifications for a bachelor’s degree may qualify to enter an associate degree program since most associate-level programs are open enrollment. Applicants to the university’s associate-level programs should check with the university to see whether open enrollment is available. Students are also welcome to apply if they have been homeschooled, have graduated from an international location, or are non-degree seeking applicants.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for undergraduate students at Utah State University if they live in Utah is $584.83 per credit and is $1,883.11 per credit if they’re from out of state. Students will also pay a fee based on the number of credits in which they’re enrolled. For example, a six-credit course load would result in a fee of $452.00, and a 12-credit course load would result in a $555.14 fee.

Graduate tuition rates are $690.06 per credit for Utah residents and $2,415.29 for non-residents. Graduate students will also pay a fee that will be based on the number of credits in which a student has enrolled for the semester. Students enrolled at a regional campus may pay a slightly different rate. Online students may also pay a different rate with undergraduate students from Utah paying a rate of $319 per credit and out-of-state students paying $349 per credit.

Financial aid is offered to eligible students who submit their FAFSA forms, and students who qualify may receive a combination of loans, grants, and scholarships. Students who want to qualify for scholarships administered by the university will need to have their unweighted GPA from high school and standardized test scores examined within the university’s admissions index.

The university only offers its institutional scholarships to residents of Utah, but out-of-state students may qualify for grants through the federal financial aid program. Out-of-state students who want to enroll at Utah State University and earn scholarships may need to consider non-institutional sources like private organizations.
