About University of Maryland Global Campus

The University of Maryland Global Campus began with the mission to serve students who were unable to attend the College Park campus, especially returning World War II veterans. The University realized that the returning soldiers were often juggling work and family obligations which required a more flexible class schedule. Initially, the school was known as the College of Special and Continuation Studies. In 1949, it became the first University to send faculty overseas to educate active-duty military personnel.

The school became University College in 1959, a name based on a British term for an institution that takes courses from all academic departments and offers them outside the walls of the University. Undergraduate tuition for Maryland residents is $300 per credit hour while out-of-state residents pay $499 per credit hour. Military tuition rates are $250 per credit hour for undergraduate programs. Graduate tuition for Maryland residents is $480 per credit hour and for out-of-state residents is $659 per credit hour. Tuition for members of the military is $480 per credit hour for graduate programs.
