About Concordia University – St. Paul, Minnesota

Concordia University-St. Paul was founded in 1893 as a Christian liberal arts school of higher learning with the goal of providing students an education that would prepare them for leadership roles in their chosen careers. The school has a student-centered approach that promotes character, academic strength, and values. Originally, Concordia was founded as Concordia High School in temporary quarters for its first classes. The following year, the school purchased a former state training school for boys in what was then a remote location between Minneapolis and St. Paul.

During the Great Depression, there was talk of closing the school due to low enrollment but were able to remain open by slashing budgets, closing three residence halls, asking for food donations from congregations and having students work on campus without pay. Finances improve significantly during World War II as enrollment increased, a trend that continued after the war as soldiers returned to take advantage of the GI Bill. In 1950, women were admitted to the school and Concordia Academy separated from the college in 1967, moving to its own location.

Today, Concordia continues to promote a strong sense of community, even among students who attend online programs. Students are made to feel as if they are part of a family and are encouraged to engage with professors as well as peers. The school has a reputation that has existed for over 100 years and continues to provide students with a Christ-centered education and outstanding learning experiences.

Concordia University – St. Paul is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and has held accreditation since 1959. Accreditation indicates that the school meets or exceeds criteria the Commission has determined indicates excellence in education. Concordia University – St. Paul Application Requirements

First-year students, those who have not earned college credit after high school graduation, must submit an online application along with official high school transcripts and an admissions essay. ACT or SAT scores may be submitted but are optional. Transfer students, those who have earned college credit after high school graduation, must submit an online application and official college transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Students who have fewer than 20 transfer credits must also submit official high school transcripts and an essay.

Graduate admissions vary depending on the program. In order to apply for the Master of Science in Human Resource Management program, applicants must complete an online application and provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. One transcript must show the conferring of a bachelor’s degree or higher. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. A personal statement must be submitted of between 400 and 1,000 words describing the applicant’s employment history, why they are pursuing a graduate degree, a personal or professional goal and a personal or professional experience that positively influenced their ability to succeed at the graduate level.

Concordia University – St. Paul Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for the Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Management is $420 per credit hour and for the graduate program in Human Resource Management tuition is $475 per credit hour. As long as the student remains enrolled in a degree program, tuition will not change until they complete the program.

Financial aid is available and is based on the student’s level of financial support. This level of support is based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which must be submitted on an annual basis. Financial aid may be awarded in the form of gift aid, including scholarships and grants, which do not need to be repaid upon graduation. Students may also receive loans which must be repaid or work-study programs which provide employment in order to offset the cost of education.
