By HRMBA Staff

Published January 2016

In this article, we present the 50 most affordable small colleges for a human resources degree and HR study in 2016.

When sizing up colleges, big versus small, there are a variety of things to consider. The best way to choose the educational environment that fits your needs is to assess what kind of college experience you desire. The small college experience generally offers low student-to-faculty ratios, small class sizes, and opportunities to get to know professors. Small colleges don’t always offer the number of degrees a large university does, but if you plan to pursue a major in human resource management or related field, the following list of schools will be of interest to you.

Methodology

We examined a number of small and affordable colleges that offer human resources degrees, business degrees with an HR emphasis, and programs that are useful in pursuing an HR career. We are aware that small and private colleges often come with a hefty tuition price tag and because of this, we examined cheap HR degree programs.

We gathered the latest data from NCES College Navigator, as well as school websites. Our initial pool of 192 universities and colleges consisted of the following:

  • Regionally and nationally accredited institutions offering a bachelor’s degree in human resources or related program, such as business, management, or accounting with HR related classes
  • Schools with an enrollment of 3,000 or fewer undergraduate students

From our original pool, we narrowed the list to the fifty institutions with the lowest published 2016 undergraduate tuition and fees. They are listed here in order of affordability, with the least expensive school earning a #1 position in our Top 50 list.
